Jakarta (Antara) -- One of the most noted soccer coaches in Indonesia, Rahmad Darmawan, signed a one-year contract with the Jakarta-based Persija Football Club here on Thursday. Persija is not a new club for Darmawan because he coached the squad in 2006 and in the 2009-2010 period, as well. Before signing the new contract, he was the coach of Surabaya-based Persebaya football club in East Java province. According to the President of Persija, Ferry Paulus, one of the reasons Darmawan was chosen was their shared vision of transforming Persija into the best team in the Indonesia Super League (ISL). This year, Persija failed to reach the top eight in the ISL. The top eight were: Arema Indonesia - Persebaya Surabaya Persib Bandung - Persipura Jayapura Semen Padang - Mitra Kukar Pelita Bandung Raya - Persela Lamongan Persija, an acronym for the "Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Jakarta," is, in fact, one of Indonesia's most successful clubs and the most popular sports club in the city.
