Jayapura, Papua (Antara) - Forum Port Numbay Green, the non-governmental environmental organization, planted 4.5 thousand mangrove trees in the coastline areas of Jayapura, Papua, Andre Lim, the chairperson of Forum Port Numbay Green, stated here on Thursday. "The planting of the trees has been done since 2012, and until now, we have planted about 4.5 thousand mangrove trees. We will continue to plant the trees to preserve the coastline areas," he noted. He explained that the planting was done by taking mangroves from the areas having dense growth and replanting them in the areas where their population has declined. "The process of uprooting, transporting, and replanting takes only one day," Andre revealed. According to him, the replanting process is carried out in keeping with the natural conditions of the mangroves to facilitate their growth. "For instance, we replant the new mangroves when the low tide occurs, so that the plants will not die," Andre stated. As of now, replanting is being done in the Holtekam Beach area and its vicinity, Muara Tami District, Jayapura. "The other locations are in the Entrop areas and Enggros Village. They are all in Jayapura city," he remarked, adding that the organization has invited people to become environmental volunteers to support the replanting of mangroves. (*)
