Jambi (Antara) - Acting minister of religious affairs Agung Laksono is convinced the implementation of the hajj pilgrimage program this year will be improved over past years. He also said here on Saturday that the cost for the hajj pilgrimage would be reduced by 8.2 percent, reaching around Rp33 million per person, adding that the public would see improvements in the carrying out of the program. He noted that preparations, meanwhile, were nearly completed, including of regulations that support the program. Agung said although the hajj pilgrimage cost was to be reduced, the government would not lower the quality of its services. The country's hajj pilgrimage program has been marred by the naming of religious affairs minister, Suryadharma Ali, as a suspect in a corruption case linked to the program recently. The director general of hajj pilgrimage, Anggito Abimanyu, has also resigned from his post in connection with the case. Agung Laksono, who is currently the coordinating minister for people's welfare, plans to visit Saudi Arabia soon to monitor preparations in the field prior to the arrival of hajj pilgrims from Indonesia.
