Jakarta (Antara) - Women volunteers from the United Indonesian Women's Association here on Friday declared their support to presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Hatta Rajasa. "The voice of Indonesian women is significant for the triumph of Prabowo and Hatta as the Indonesian president and vice president in the upcoming election," coordinator of the association Anita Ariani noted at the headquarters of Prabowo-Hatta's winning team in Rumah Polonia, East Jakarta area. According to Ariani, the Prabowo-Hatta pair had earlier stated its commitment to appointing more women as ministers or high-ranking officials. "About 30 percent of those appointed in high-ranking positions will be women," Anita remarked. However, she emphasized that women appointed in high positions in the government will be selected based on their qualities and potential. The United Indonesian Women's Association is a group of women comprising activists, politicians, practitioners, merchants, and housewives. Prabowo and his vice presidential candidate, Hatta Rajasa will compete against Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla in the presidential election scheduled on July 9. The Prabowo-Hatta duo is supported by six political parties, while the Jokowi-JK pair is backed by four parties. Prabowo is a former army special forces commander and currently, the chief patron of Gerindra, while Hatta Rajasa is the general chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the former chief economic minister. Jokowi is currently the Jakarta governor and a cadre of the PDIP, and Jusuf Kalla, popularly known by the initials JK, is a noted businessman and former vice president.
