Jakarta (Antara) - Ministers who take part in the presidential convention of the Democratic Party (PD) will likely be asked to resign if their participation disturbs their duties, Presidential Convention Committee Secretary Suaidi Marasabessy said. "We will see if their participation disturbs their jobs, we will likely ask them to resign. But Mr Syarif Hasan and Mr Jero Wacik, two ministers who are active in the party, could maintain their good performance," Suaidi said here on Sunday night. In the meantime Secretary of PD Supreme Council Jero Wacik who is also energy and mineral resources minister said 11 names had so far been invited to take part in the presidential convention of the Democratic party. "We have contacted them one by one. There have been 11 names. Based on the codes of ethics we cannot yet make public the names. They said they were serious to take part in the convention," he said. He said that the figures which were invited to join the convention came from various circles, including ministers and political party leaders outside the Democratic Party. Elected presidential candidate will be decided through surveys carried out two times by three independent survey institutions, he said. On Sunday evening, the ruling Democrat Party announced the names of 17 members of the convention committee who would select the party's presidential candidate for the election next year. The announcement was made by the secretary of the party's Supreme Council, Jero Wacik, flanked by head of the party's Advisory Council, EE Mangindaan, Honorary Council chairman Amir Syamsuddin and head of Legislative Candidate Recruiting Task Force, Suaidi Marasabessy. The committee members consist of 10 from independent sources and seven from within the party. The committee is chaired by former religious affairs minister Maftuh Basyuni while former Corruption Eradication Commission member Taufikurrahman Ruki has been chosen as deputy chairman, Suaidi Marasabessy as secretary and Andi Timo Pangerang as treasurer.
