Garut, W Java (Antara) - Garut police detained 84 illegal immigrants believed from the Middle East caught on Saturday in the southern coastal area of West Java in the regency of Garut. Garut police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Umar Surya Fana said the illegal immigrants including 75 men, a child and eight women were caught early dawn on Saturday. "We could not confirm where they had come from but by their physical look they could be from Afghanistan, Iran, or Palestine," Umar said. He said their destination is Australia and planned to use a boat via the southern coast of West Java in Garut. They were caught when they were on their way to the coast on board three trucks. "They have been sent to police detention house in Garut where they will stay until they are picked up by the immigration authorities and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The Garut police still are looking for the people bringing the illegal immigrants to Garut. (*)
