Mataram, West Nusa Tanggara, June 22 (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale rocked Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) at 12.36 pm local time on Saturday, causing damage to a number of houses. Medana Village Head of Lombok Utara District Subianto Jaswadi said the quake which last for about three seconds caused damage to properties in Kopang, Orong Rumput, Gol and Teluk Dalm hamlets. "Provisional reports mentioned that a number of houses in Kopang Hamlet were leveled to the ground by the quake. Several number of villagers sustained injuries," he said. The same thing also happened in Telok Dalam Hamlet where a number of house were damaged and had their roofs collapsed. "We have no reports yet on the number of damaged houses," he said. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said the 5.4-magnitude earthquake had its epicenter at 8.43 degrees southern latitude, 116.05 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km. It is about 14 km to the northwest of Lombok Bara. (*)
