Jakarta (Antara) - The bigger number of Indonesian young workers compared with that of other countries is an asset for Indonesia to face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.
"In Indonesia, the number of young workers is big. If they are provided with good guidance they will benefit us in the face of AEC," Standing Committee Chairman of National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Bayu Prawira told a press conference here on Monday.
He said that the world demographic compostion was changing with the increasing number of old-age citizens, he said.
Although Indonesia is better in term of the number of young workforce, yet the quality of its workers still needed to be improved so that they would be able to produce goods with AEC standard.
"In this case, the thing that should be improved is not only the workers but also the staffers, the management and the strategies. In general, we should develop our human resources," he said.
He said that Indonesia possessed other particularities such as the big market. This will ease business players to begin business.
Besides, Indonesia has abundant natural resources that should be utilized well. The number of commodity types in Indonesia such as oil palm and rubber is bigger than that of other countries.
Therefore, the Indonesian government should build and increase communications with business owners and business associations so that they would be able to make preparations in the face of competition in the AEC in 2015.
He said that the government and business association should cooperate in promoting domestic products to the AEC countries.
"We have to visit other AEC countries to promote our products to their domestic markets," he said. (*)
