Bandung, W Java (Antara) - Terrorists are state enemies that should be crushed but police should not resort to repressive acts in handling suspects, former chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK) Mahfud MD said. "It should not happen that police are resorting to extraordinary repressive acts only because they are willing to show a great achievement in quelling terrorists," Mahfud said following a seminar here on Saturday. After attending a national seminar on the law of mass organizations, the former MK chairman said that police officers must be careful in fighting terrorists. He said that it was not impossible that an alleged terror suspect was a member of a movement which was fighting for a normal aspiration but was suspected to be a terrorist. "I agree that terrorists must be crushed but I also hope that security apparatuses will be extra careful in naming a terror suspect because it can happen that a suspect is only fighting for a normal aspiration, but he is rumored to be a terrorist," Mahfud said. He also called on the police to be more open in naming a person a terror suspect. "The movement fighting for normal aspiration should not be mistaken with terrorism movement," noted Mahfud. (*)
