Surabaya (Antara) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked workers and laborers to maintain productivity that would increase the competitiveness of companies.
"Productivity is a key (to success). If productivity is maintained it will increase the competitiveness of Indonesia's enterprises and business world and generate economic development," the president said when he held a dialog with workers of PT Unilever firm in Rungkut areas here on Wednesday.
He said that the ability to increase competitiveness would generate economic growth which would in the end also improve the welfare of the Indonesian people.
"If all Indonesian businesses have high competitive edge, they should not be worried about joining the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. We should not be concerned. What needs to be done is to increase our competitiveness," he said.
Before visiting the Unilever factory in Rungkut area, the president and party also visited a PT Maspion factory in Sidoardjo.
As part of conducting an observation tour of the factory, the head of state also held a dialog and a lunch together with 500 factory workers in the company which produced household utensils.
PT Maspion employs around 13,000 people with production facilities spread out in four industrial areas in Sidoarjo and Gresik, East Java, and one factory in Jakarta, West Java. (*)
