Jakarta - The Democratic Party (PD) held a nation-wide leaders' meeting here on Sunday following the declining electability of the ruling party due to involvement of some of its cadres in corruption cases. The meeting attended by central, regional and district board members from across the country at a hotel was held behind closed doors with the main agenda of hearing directives from the party's supreme council chairman, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. During the meeting all the participants would sign an integrity pact while those who have signed it would submit the documents to the committee. The ruling party's general chairman, Anas Urbaningrum, said that the meeting was only for consolidation. "This, according to the party's statute, is a forum of consolidation to improve solidity," he said at the venue of the meeting. He said the aim was solidifying cadres' determination so that they would work harder to advance the party. He assured that it would not lead to an extraordinary meeting to replace the party's chief. In front of the location of the meeting banners were seen being put up by Anas' supporters showing their rejection to the holding of an extraordinary meeting. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, currently the president of Indonesia, recently decided to take over the running of the party to allow Anas to focus on dealing with allegation that he has been involved in a corruption case. Anas has always denied them and so far he has never been named suspect in any case by anti-graft body KPK. (*)
