Jakarta - The first ever Islamic news agency in Indonesia, the Mi'raj News Agency (MINA), was launched here on Tuesday.
"MINA will assist the Muslim people in spreading Islamic teaching to the world, while also advocating freedom for Palestine," CEO of the news agency, Muhyiddin Hamidy, said during the Tuesday launch event.
He explained that MINA would function as an alternative media source, counterbalancing global opinion that was dominated by Zionist Israel.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Marzuki Alie, who attended the launch, expressed hope that MINA would benefit Muslim people all over the world.
"MINA's news article must be reliable and accurate. The news agency must also have qualified journalists with good knowledge of various sectors," he said.
The MINA news agency has been established as a follow up to the International Conference for the Freedom of Palestine, held in Bandung, West Java province, last July 2012. The news agency was founded based on cooperation between the Al-Fatah Islamic boarding school, the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), Aqsha Working Group and Radio Silaturahmi. (*)
