Jakarta - Dr Andreas Harry of Indonesia, will attend an international congress on dementia and Alzheimer's diseases in Vancouver, Canada, he told ANTARA in Jakarta on Sunday. He said the world congress on the disease last year initiated by the Association of Alzheimer's Disease (AAICAD) was held in Paris and attended by world researchers on the disease. He said that this year's program he as member of the international advance research association, who came there along with dr Tika Santosa, was again invited to see the latest research developments on the mental disorder, its history, classification and medicines. The writer said that Alzheimer's disease was the most important of dementia. In 2008, General Chairman of AAZI dr Samino, SpS (K) also said that people prone to the disease are normally over 60 years of age, but youngsters may also be affected by the disorder due to descendants. Samino said that even a 40 years old Alzheimer's disease patient was found in Indonesia. An Indonesian nervous disease expert Prof Mohammad Hasan Machfoed, SpS (K) said at an ASEAN Neurological Association (ASNA) conference in Bali last year that dementia caused a decline in human intellectual capacity and memory. Professor at Airlangga University (Unair) medical colleague in Surabaya said that all these disorders will affect both human resources, productivity and effectiveness. Andreas Harry hoped his participation in the congress would produce many of the latest research developments on dementia and Alzheimer's disease in Indonesia for preventive purposes.
