Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Minister Abdul Halim Iskandar expressed belief that villages across Indonesia are all set to become the main drivers of the country's development.
"Rural governments in Indonesia are well-prepared to be entrusted with carrying out development. I believe in villages' capacity," Iskandar noted in his ministry's statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
Speaking during the inauguration of the office of the village-run enterprise (BUMDes) Manik Sedana Kutuh in Kutuh Village, Badung District, Bali, on Friday (September 27), Iskandar highlighted that the villages' readiness is reflected in their improved capability to optimize their potential through BUMDes and human resource development.
On that note, he lauded Kutuh Village for operating reliable BUMDes and giving opportunities to its young talents to participate in development initiatives and grow their skills.
"Kutuh Village has continued to move forward, getting better and more complete. This makes me proud, as the condition when I came here two years ago was not as good as now. This village always offers different (new) things," he remarked.
The newly officiated BUMDes office hosts various business units that align with the needs of local people.
During his visit, the minister also found that Kutuh Village has established a youth organization in which local young people are provided with space to explore information technology to help the village publicize visual and audio-visual information related to it via social media platforms.
He observed that the positive trend demonstrated by Kutuh Village can be regarded as a testament that villages are ready to take center stage in Indonesia's development.
On the occasion, Iskandar was accompanied by several of his aides, including his ministry's secretary-general, Taufik Madjid.
