President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed hope that President-elect Prabowo Subianto will lead Indonesia toward progress and prosperity.
"May God help you and the Indonesian nation achieve progress and prosperity and make Indonesia a high-income country that is just and sustainable," Jokowi said.
He was speaking at the closing of a Gerindra Party national leadership meeting on Saturday evening.
The Gerindra Party is the primary political vehicle for Prabowo, a central figure since its founding in 2008. He has been the party's presidential candidate in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 elections, winning the latter.
Prabowo is set to be sworn in on October 20 as the eighth President of Indonesia since the country declared its independence on August 17, 1945.
Jokowi also congratulated Prabowo on his victory, stating that he has received the trust of the people.
"I would like to congratulate Prabowo Subianto, who has been entrusted by the people as the elected president," Jokowi said.
On the same occasion, Jokowi noted that "energy and time will not run out because the current government has many programs to support people's welfare."
"Hence, this nation does not run out of time, resources, and energy just because of a change in leadership," he added.
Gerindra Party Secretary Ahmad Muzani mentioned that Prabowo is prepared to continue all of Jokowi's work programs.
"We will always remember Jokowi, and Prabowo will continue the development," Muzani said at the event.
He stated that Prabowo and all Gerindra cadres are committed to supporting the continuity of Jokowi's programs, such as the development of the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), the green economy, and economic downstreaming.
Earlier, on August 16, during his visit to IKN Nusantara, Prabowo assured that the development of the new capital city will be completed.
"We will definitely complete it," Prabowo stated.
