Sidoarjo District in East Java Province has 349 village-level voluntary command posts to assist the local government in containing the spread of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The command posts have drawn their members from village administrative apparatuses, and include volunteers, police's village-level security and public order officers (Bhabinkamtibmas), and village supervisory non-commissioned officers (Babinsa), chief of the Sidoarjo District Police Senior Commissioner Sumardji informed here on Saturday.
"They will play an active role in stemming the spread of coronavirus in their respective areas," he said.
One of the command post's tasks is to check the health of people coming from outside the village, he pointed out.
Each of the command posts is equipped with an isolation room and protective gear.
He expressed the hope the command posts would report any COVID-19-related issue to the Sub-district Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimka) and the District Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda).
"The issue particularly involves the condition of residents related to the spread of COVID-19," he said.
As coordinators of command posts, village heads should check people who come from outside their villages or home-bound travelers, he continued.
"Based on the health protocol, home-bound travelers must self-isolate," he said.
The command posts have been set up in 349 villages in the district, he added.
He said efforts to cut the chain of COVID-19 spread must involve all parties from the central government to village-level administrations. (INE)
