The Surabaya Port Health Office is intensifying its supervision of incoming passengers from abroad at the Juanda International Airport, Sidoarjo District, East Java Province, following the outbreak of a new coronavirus in Wuhan City, China.
To this end, the office has deployed some of its officers to examine the body temperature of passengers that recently alighted the aircraft, Health Office chief Budi Hidayat stated here on Wednesday.
"If the body temperature of the passengers is over 38 degrees Celsius, we will escort them to a special isolation room in the vicinity of the airport," he remarked.
After they have undergone preliminary checkups, the passengers will be referred to the Dr Sutomo General Hospital in Surabaya for further checkups, he stated.
"Similar to the procedure in place at Juanda (Airport), they will be isolated in a special room to prevent the spread of the virus," he explained.
Juanda Airport serves flights from China twice a week.
"During medical checkups that we have conducted on incoming passengers so far, none were found to have contracted the virus," he confirmed.
However, precautionary measures will always be taken to ensure that matters are well under control at the airports arrival terminal, he stated.
"We also coordinate with airline companies to check the passenger manifest and equip our officers with self-protection mechanisms in accordance with the standard operating procedure," he added.
