Bogor, W Java, (Antara) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said here on Tuesday that Indonesia should strengthen its integrity in the international community and increase leadership among Muslim countries.
"We will continue to carry out these efforts, with the blessings of God, a clear mind, and hard work," the president remarked at the commemoration of Isra Mi'raj (Prophet Muhammad night journey) 1439 Hijriyah at Bogor Palace.
The head of state noted that as the largest Muslim-majority state in the world, Indonesia has tried hard to support the cause of Palestinians, directly and indirectly, through its active role in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Indonesia, he added, has also pushed the holding of OIC extraordinary summit in December 2017 against the United States' unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israel¿s capital city.
"Our stance is very clear. Such a unilateral recognition has violated the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly in January 2018," he revealed.
Furthermore, Jokowi stated that he has visited Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh to show Indonesia's commitment to humanity and world peace, as well as its commitment to Muslim brothers.
During his visit to Afghanistan, the president reiterated the importance of world Muslim brotherhood, tolerance, and unity.
"I am sure and optimistic that Indonesia and the Muslims in the world would give their contribution to improve world peace, humanity, as well as world prosperity," he asserted.
Isra Mi'raj would give the spirit of sincere struggle to raise the dignity of Muslims, the president remarked.
Also present at the occasion were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, House Speaker Bambang Soesatyo, Chairman of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) Moermahmudi Soerja Djanegara, Military Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto, and Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin.(*)
