Jakarta, (Antara) - Indonesia and Vietnam have agreed to speed up the negotiation process on the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) between the two countries.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) noted in a joint press conference with Secretary General of Vietnam Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong here on Wednesday that the bilateral meeting discussed the acceleration of the negotiation process on EEZ, among others.

"Indonesia and Vietnam have agreed to speed up the negotiation process on delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone," the president said.

In the fishery sector, both countries have agreed to cooperate to realize sustainable fisheries, President Jokowi noted.

"We will cooperate in the efforts to crack down on illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU Fishing)," he added.

Meanwhile, Trong said, the meeting with President Jokowi was aimed at enhancing bilateral ties.

"We are pleased that despite the current complicated global situation, bilateral ties have been built through partnership. We have a lot in common in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). We have several positive results in terms of our strategic relations," he noted.

However, he admitted that cooperation in various sectors had run sluggishly due to unfavorable economic conditions.

Hence, the two countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in various sectors, Trong added.(*)
