Jakarta, (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter Scale jolted southern Yogyakarta and East Java but did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.

"The quake's epicenter was located at 9.19 degrees southern latitude and 111.31 degrees eastern longitude, around 113 km southeast of Pacitan, and at a depth of 62 km below sea level," Hary Tirto Djatmiko, spokesman of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), said here on Friday.

Having an intensify at III Modified Marcelli Intensity (MMI), the tremor was also felt in other areas of Bantul, Imogiri, Playen, Wonosari, Pasirombo, Pacitan, Tamperan, Kebonagung, Ngadirojo, Panggul, Munjungan, Tulungagung, Donomulyo and Karangkates.

"In those regions, many people felt the quake and rushed out of their homes," he added.(*)
