Jember, E. Java (Antara) - Students from East Java's Jember University won a gold medal at Malaysia's Education Ministry's seventh International Engineering Invention and Innovation Exhibition (I-ENVEX) 2016 for inventing a digital key with a flash drive for motor vehicles.
"A motor vehicle using a digital key can only be operated by its flash drive. Using a digital key is expected to minimize vehicle thefts," Anggi Yolanda, one of the students, stated here on Wednesday.
Adi Nugroho and Rifang Pri Asmara are the other members of the team. They have created a security system for motor vehicles with an innovation titled "Key Vehicle System Using the Flash."
According to Anggi, the innovative flash key designed by the team works by starting the engine of the vehicle. The flash drive contains a certain file, whose content has been secured through a special algorithm system.
"The file in the flash key cannot be copied to another flash drive. We have also made its android application that can be used on a smartphone in order to strengthen the security system," he explained.
The three students have also created a feature to operate the engine of the motor vehicle through Android-based support applications.
Agung Purwanto, spokesperson of the University of Jember, stated that the seventh I-ENVEX 2016 featured seven categories, and some 400 students from various countries, such as Romania, Poland, the United States, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Bulgaria, Egypt, Iraq, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, China, India, and South Korea had participated in the event.
The three Indonesian students had participated in the manufacturing process and machines and equipment category, he revealed.
Rifang, another team member, noted that they will continue to further develop their innovations, not only for motor vehicles but also for other applications.
"We hope to continue to develop innovative digital keys for other purposes, for instance, for houses and other objects that require security systems," he added.(*)
