Surabaya, E Java, (Antara) - The state  owned port operator PT  Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III) began to adopt "one stop service" system to cut dwelling time in its Tanjung Perak port of Surabaya, East Java.

The move followed high profile corruption case over dwelling time in Jakarta's Tanjung Priok port.

Police have named and arrested a number of suspects including Foreign Trade Director General Partogi Pangaribuan on graft charge.

General Manager of Pelindo III Eko Harijadi Budiarto said a number of related divisions of the company, formerly occupying separate buildings,  have been housed in the same building.

The licensing procedure could now be processed in one building to save much time, Eko said.

"Banks which were previously located in separate places in  Tanjung Perak have also been placed in one location. This is a solution to cut dwelling time," he said here on Thursday.

He said  Pelindo III has also signed a contract for the construction of a flyover  linking Teluk Lamong  and a toll road to facilitate transport to and from the country's second largest port.

Earlier container terminal, PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS), said it already took a number of steps to cut dwelling time.

TPS spokesman Ardiansyah said among the steps is modernization of loading and unloading equipment to increase productivity.

A bigger piling square  would be built  and strengthening and expansion of "Global Positioning System" (GPS)  and  Booking and Gate Automation System (BGAS), Ardiansyah said.

Currently dwelling time  at port uncer Pelindo III is not the same  -- 4 days at Tanjung Perak  and 5 days at  PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS), 5 days at PT Berlian Jasa Terminal Indonesia (BJTI)  Surabaya, 5 days at Terminal Teluk Lamong  Surabaya and 5 days at  Terminal Peti Kemas Semarang (TPKS).

Five days are considered too long and inefficient.

President Joko Widodo himself has ordered a cut in welling time in Indonesian power to be competitive at least in the region especially after the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community by the end of this year.(*)
