Jakarta, (Antara)- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has bestowed medals of honor on several citizens for their outstanding services to the nation in conjunction with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Indonesia's independence.
The ceremony held at Merdeka Palace, here, on Thursday, was also attended by Vice President Jusuf M. Kalla.
The president presented Mahaputra Stars to 22 people, Jasa (Service) Stars to 22, Penegak Demokrasi (Democracy Enforcer) Stars to two, and Budaya Parama Dharma Stars to eight.
The Mahaputra Stars comprise Mahaputra Adipradana and Mahaputra Utama Stars.
Recipients of the Mahaputra Adipradana Stars are Hamdan Zoelva, the former chairman of the Constitutional Court (MK); and retired generals Moeldoko, Sutanto, and Bimantoro.
Mahaputra Utama Stars were presented to former MK judges Achmad Sodiki, Hardjono, and Ahmad Fadli Sumadi; MK Judge Muhammad Alim; retired admiral Marsetio; retired marshal Ida Bagus Putu Dunia; Harbrinderjit Singh Dilon, the former presidential special envoy on poverty; former commissioners of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Busyro Muqoddas and Haryono Umar; and Tahir Saimima, the former commissioner of the Judicial Court (KY).
Other recipients are former KY members Mustofa Abdullah, Zainal Arifin, and Soekotjo Soeparto; Sabam Sirait, the former legislator from PDI-P; Syafii Maarif, the former chairman of Muhammadiyah; Franz Magnis Suseno, a Catholic prominent figure; Surya Paloh, a media businessman; and Harun Nasution, a moderate culture promoter.
The Jasa (Service) Stars comprise Jasa Utama and Jasa Pratama Stars.
The recipients of Jasa Utama Stars are late Burhan Muhammad, a diplomat; Ahmad Heryawan, West Java governor; Ganjar Pranowo, Central Java governor; Cornelis, West Kalimantan governor; Frans Lebu Raya, East Nusa Tenggara governor; Christiany Eugenia Paruntu, South Minahasa district head; Stephanus Malak, Sorong district head; Tri Rismaharini, Surabaya mayor; Didin Hafidhuddin Maturidi, the chairman of the national alms board; Dato Sri Profesor Tahir from Mayapada Group; Mochtar Riyadi from Lippo Group; Schoichiro Toyoda, a member of the board of directors of Toyota Motors; and Toshihiro Nikai, the chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party.
Late Heri Listyawati Burhan, the wife of late Burhan Muhammad, the former Indonesian ambassador to Pakistan, was awarded the Jasa Pratama Star.
The recipients of the Penegak Demokrasi (Democracy Enforcer) Utama Stars are Husni Kamil Manik, the chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and Muhammad, the chairman of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu).
The president also conferred Budaya Parama Dharma Stars on Mustofa Bisri, a Muslim scholar; Gunawan Soesatyo Mohammad, a man of letters and culture; late Petrus Josephus Zoetmulder, a literature expert; late Wasi Kolodoro alias Ki Tjokrowasito, a traditional music composer; late Hosein Djajadiningrat, a scientific tradition pioneer; late Nursjiwan Tirtaamidjaja, a Batik fashion designer; late Hendra Gunawan, a painter and sculptor; and late Soejoedi Wiryoatmojo, an architect.(*)
