Batam, Riau Islands (Antara) - President Joko Widodo ordered all ministries related to the sea toll scheme to purchase home-made ships, including ships made in Batam which had many shipyards capable to build various types of ships.
"I hope all will purchase home-made products. This include state-owned oil firm Pertamina and others which need tankers. There is no need to buy ones from other countries," the President said after holding a dialog with ship manufacturers in Kabil, Batam, on Sunday.
He said that he was impressed when he visited South Korea and saw shipyards there which he viewed to be very advanced.
However, after visiting Batam shipyards, the President was convinced that industries at home were already able to build different types of ships to meet the need at home.
"After seeing shipyards in Batam, I am aware that Batam's shipyard industries are able to build ships for our needs," he said. (*)
