Surabaya, E Java (Antara) -- Former president director of Bank UMKM Jatim R. Soeroso was appointed as the president director Bank Jatim on Wednesday, replacing Hadi Sukrianto. "This appointment is a mandate for us to account for not only in the world but also the next world," Soeroso said on the sidelines of the general shareholders meeting of the bank, which is owned by the government of East Java. Despite being appointed to the post, Soeroso stated that he was awaiting approval from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to begin performing his new duties. For the time being, the bank will be handled by the old management. "We expressed our gratitude to Hadi Sukrianto. We are committed to continuing what (the old management) has done so far," he affirmed. Soeroso further noted that he was prepared to follow-up on the business plan adopted by the previous management, particularly to cut the high non-performing loans (NPLs) that currently reached 3.30 percent. "Although the percentage of NPLs is high, it is still below the 5 percent mark set by Bank Indonesia. We will strive to lower the percentage of NPLs to 2 percent this year," he remarked. Moreover, Sukrianto will later assume the post of the bank's commissioner. Bank Jatim posted a profit before tax of Rp1.37 trillion last year, a 19.27 percent increase from that recorded the year before. (*)
