Batam, Riau Islands (Antara) - Pilots, co-pilots, and the air crew of numerous airlines underwent urine tests at Hang Nadim international airport in Batam, Riau Islands Province, on Saturday.
The urine test was conducted by a joint team of the Batam police, the National Narcotics Agency, transportation department, and the airport authority.
"Up to this afternoon, many pilots, co-pilots, and air crew of numerous airline companies including Lion Air and Citilink have undergone urine tests, but the results were all negative," joint team spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ade G Sinaga said here Saturday.
The urine test at Hang Nadim airport was the second after the first one before the Idul Fitri holiday mass exodus, Sinaga noted.
"We want to make sure that air crew are not under the influence of drugs or alcohol to ensure the safety of all airplane passengers to and from Batam," he remarked.
Besides the air crew, bus and taxi drivers operating at the airport were also required to undergo urine tests, he added.
Urine tests were also conducted at Batam Center international port, Harbor bay, Sekupang, and Telaga Punggur, Riau Islands Police spokesman Senior Commissioner, Agus Rohmat, said.
"Our target is to ensure that at least 500 crew members of numerous transportation agencies will undergo urine tests on the whole of Saturday," Rohmat remarked. (*)
