Jakarta (Antara) - Indonesian Military Commander General Moeldoko has handed over the Army leadership from General Budiman to Lieutenant General Gatot Nurmayanto at the Army Headquarter in Central Jakarta on Friday. On Friday morning, Lieutenant General Gatot was inaugurated as the new Army chief by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace. After the official military appointment, General Moeldoko said that the succession of Army leadership was part of personnel development and a common regeneration. "This is not related with politics, and there is no such politicization, as the essence of regeneration is for the sustainability of Army leadership," he said. Addressing the predecessor, Moeldoko expressed gratitude and high consideration to General Budiman for his contribution to the Army. General Moeldoko also called for all Army personnel to rethink their roots, ways of thinking, and ways to act on their duty as the soldiers of the people. "On the strategic national interest's point of view, the Army, which is supported with the primary weapons defense system, is required to increase its professionalism to optimize the existing harmony," he said. "The Indonesian Military is expected to provide security in the democratic society to maintain stability," Moeldoko added. In order to create high professionalism, Moeldoko emphasized the needs of high-quality soldiers who were loyal to the country. "That is the domain of the head of staff," he said. The handover ceremony was also attended by former Indonesian Military Commander General (Retiree) Wiranto, former Vice President Try Sutrisno, former Industrial and Trade Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, former Army Chief General (Retiree) Ryamizard Ryacudu, and former Chief of the Indonesian Military General Staff Lieutenant General (Retiree) Suaedy Marasabessy.
