Jayapura, Papua (Antara) - PT Telkomsel TBK said it will soon build 20 telecommunications towers in a number of regencies and cities in Papua .
"In order to provide services for our customers, Telkomsel will soon build more units of base transceiver stations (BTS) in a number of areas," Ali Imran, the vice president of the subsidiary of state telecommunication companies PT Telkom for Papua, Maluku , Sulawesi and Kalimantan, said here on Wednesday.
Telkomsel plans to build 300 units of BTS in the country's eastern region including 20 units in Papua, Ali Imran said.
He said 10 areas in Papua already have the services of 3G (Third Generation Technology).
"The service of 3G technology has been used as far as Merauke, Biak, Mimika, Nabire, Puncak Jaya, Jayawijaya and Jayapura in Papu and in Sorong, Raja Ampat, and Manokwari in West Papua," he said.
Telkomsel is the country's largest operator of cell phones. (*)
