Jakarta (Antara) - An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale jolted Simeulue District in Aceh Province on Sunday at 5.07 p.m. local time. The Simeulue earthquake was located at 1.96 degrees north latitude and 90.42 degrees east longitude at the depth of 10 km, head of the Geophysics Station in Kotabumi, Lampung province, Yuharman quoted the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) official as stating. The earthquake has no potential to trigger tsunami. On last Sunday (May 18) an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter Scale also jolted Aceh Jaya District in Aceh Province at 08:02:31 a.m. local time. According to Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 4.00 degree of Northern Latitude and 92.71 degree of Eastern Longitude or 342km southeast of Aceh Jaya District, at the depth of 15km. The earthquake was reported to have no tsunami potential. Head of Information and Data Center of National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho received report that the earthquake was moderately and strongly felt at the eastern coast, Aceh Jaya and Meulaboh District. The intensity scale of the earthquake ranged from III-IV MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity). There is no report on damaged buildings so far as the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) was still gathering data on the field, Nugroho said. The location of the Sunday`s earthquake was located on the same complex with the location of the magnitude 8.5, one time occurred on April 11th 2012, Nugroho added.
