Jakarta (Antara) - The Jakarta composite index opened slightly higher on Tuesday to follow the regional trend.
The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 2.35 points or 0.05 percent to 4,878.54 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.07 percent to 829.05 points.
"The increase in the index of the US market last night provided a driver for growth in Asia including the BEI index," Samuel Sekuritas' analyst Yualdo Yudoprawiro said.
Yualdo said the BEI index tended to follow the global trend after the receding political euphoria in the country last weekend.
The announcement of Joko Widodo, the populist Jakarta governor as presidential candidate by the opposition Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle was responded with a sharp rise in share prices in the closing trading day last week.
The price rise might be followed with profit taking by holder of certain shares , he said.
Head of Research of Valbury Asia Securities, Alfiansyah, said investors' attention is now drawn to US economic data such as its inflation and its current account which are expected to be announced soon.
Regional markets such as Hang Seng recorded an increase of 0.1 percent in index to 21,494.68 points with index of Nikkei up 0.86 percent to 14,400.97 and that of Straits Times gaining 0.09 percent to 3,095.26 points. (*)
