Jakarta (Antara) - The executive board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the Indonesian largest Muslim organization, has rejected the free condom distribution measure as part of the National Condom Week initiated by Health Affairs Ministry, a spokesman said. "Muslims should not involve themselves in such activity," according to deputy secretary to the executive board of Nahdlatul Ulama or PBNU, Muhammad Sulton Fatoni in his statement received here on Sunday. The National Condom Week takes place here from December 1 through 7, 2013 as part of the World AIDS Day commemoration. Sulton also said that the effort to prevent an increase of AIDS carriers is a noble work, but to prevent the transmission of HIV by conducting the free condom distribution might be misused for committing adultery. Therefore, the free condom distribution has potential to against religious teaching, he warned. The National Condom Week is carried out by the National AIDS Commission (NAC) in cooperation with one of condom makers. (*)
