Jakarta (Antara) - Tens of thousands of factory workers will take part on Monday in a heating up action toward nation wide strike from Oct 31 to Nov 1, President of the Confederation of Indonesian Labor Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal said. KSPI plans a nation wide strike on Thursday and Friday pressing for long demand for an end to outsourcing system of worker recruitment, pay hike and social security, he said here on Sunday. In the Pulo Gadung Industrial Estate and Cakung KBN in Jakarta, around 10,000 workers will take part in the action, Iqbal said without specifying the action. He said in the regencies of Bandung and West Bandung, the city of Bandung and Cimahi in West Java, 50,000 workers will also take part. In Karawang workers will join in an action of convoy and consolidation around the industrial town, he said. In Batam, a bonded zone island in the Riau Islands, 10,000 workers plan strike on Monday with the same demand. "It is only a heat up. Not all workers would join the strike on Monday," Suprapto, the coordinator of Garda Metal of the Indonesian Metal Labor Union, said in Batam. On Thursday and Friday, hundreds of thousands of workers from a number of industrial estates on the island will join the nation wide strike, Suprapto said. Iqbal said at least 3 millions of workers all over the country will take part in the nation wide strike. "The action will show the workers' determination to press for their long demand," he said.
