Ambon, Maluku (Antara) - A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocked Maluku Tenggara Barat district, Maluku province, on Sunday night, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The epicenter of the quake which struck at 07.41 p.m. local time was in the sea 177 km northwest of the district at a depth of 159 km, the agency said.
However, the quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
Maluku is one of the Indonesian provinces which are at risk of quake and tsunami because it is located in the meeting of Pacific, Indo-Australia and Eurasia faults. (*)
