Surabaya, East Java - Airlangga University (Unair) of Surabaya, East Java, and Massey University of New Zealand have agreed a partnership on public health, veterinary medicine, nursing and business economy, a Unair official said here on Friday. "After intensive communication between both parties for the last three years, Massey University Vice Chancellor Steve Maharey came to Unair on Thursday to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the partnership," said Dean of Airlangga University's School of Veterinary Medicine, Romziah Sidik. Sidik noted that in the MoU, both universities agreed to cooperate on students' and lecturers' exchange programs, joint seminars, masters and PhD scholarship programs and students' and lecturers' internship programs. According to her, the school of veterinary medicine is one of four faculties at Unair which is ready to establish cooperation with the Massey University in `bio security¿. Bio security in New Zealand is the focus of our cooperation because the country is well known for its dairy industry," Sidik said, adding that Zoonosis - a disease communicable from animal to man under natural conditions - occurred in Indonesia but was rarely found in New Zealand. Therefore, she expressed hope that the cooperation with Massey University would help in anticipating possible Zoonosis cases in Indonesia. (*)
