Pasuruan (ANTARA) - Seven people were killed and tens of others injured after the bus in which they were traveling overturned at Ngembal village in Pasuruan district, East Java, on Sunday.
The bus carrying about 60 domestic tourists met the accident on its way to NSengkaling bathing place in Malang, East Java. The domestic tourists had earlier visited Bhakti Alam agro tourism at Ngembal village about two kilometers away from the scene.
The passengers killed in the accident were identified as Imam Zuhdi (61), Suwarni (56), Dani (30), Utami (40), Salva Putri Maharani (5), Ramining (56), and Pitoyo (40), all of them residents of Candilontar housing complex in Surabaya, East Java.
All the injured were rushed to the nearby public health service post and hospital for treatment. Police are still looking into the cause of the accident by gathering information from a number of survivors.
Sasongko, one of the passengers who survived the accident said the bus was not roadworthy.
Eyewitnesses said the bus met the accident after the driver turned sharply the wheel to the left to avoid a motorcycle. However, the bus hit a tree and later overturned.
The driver of the bus who survived the accident was detained at the Pasuruan police resort for questioning. (*)
