Jakarta - Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said Indonesia's ratification of UN Convention on Migrant Workers demonstrated its commitment to protecting its migrant workers abroad. "This ratification is a manifestation of the government's commitment to protecting its migrant workers abroad. It also serves as respect for the rights of migrant workers and their families at global level," he said when delivering the government's final views at the House's plenary meeting on the ratification of international convention on migrant workers on Thursday. By ratifying the convention, Indonesia officially becomes the 46th party to the convention in the world and the second in ASEAN, Marty was quoted as saying in its press statement released on Thursday. Members of the House of Representatives (DPR) approved by acclamation the government's ratification of the migrant workers convention by passing bill into law. Earlier, at a working meeting on Monday, leaders and members of the House Commission IX endorsed by acclamation the government's proposal to ratify the convention. "This confirms the position of Indonesia as a country which always encourages the creation of a strong cooperation instrument to protect Indonesian migrant workers at regional or global level." he said.
