Jakarta - Indonesia through a press statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Friday expresses concern about North Korea's decision to still launch its rocket despite criticism from other countries.
"At this critical moment, it is important for every party to be calm and restrain themselves. Moreover, it is very important to promote diplomacy and dialogue to solve this problem and to ensure peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula," the statement said.
North Korea on Friday launched a long-range rocket, South Korea`s defence ministry and US officials said. Japan, however, said that the launch had appeared to have failed.
"North Korea launched a long-range rocket at 07:39 a.m. (22:39 GMT Thursday)," a South Korean defence ministry spokesman told AFP.
"US and South Korean intelligence authorities are seeking to determine whether it was a successful launch," he said.
Yonhap news agency also quoted a government source as saying that South Korea was tracking the rocket`s trajectory.
Japanese authorities said that the North Korean `flying object` had fallen into the ocean. (*)
