Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has lauded law-enforcing agencies for arresting Nunun Nurbaeti, a suspect in a high-profile bribery case. "President Yudhoyono also appreciated the Thai government for its cooperation and support in arresting and extraditing Nunun Nurbaeti, a fugitive on the government's most wanted list," presidential aide for political communication Daniel Sparringa said on Sunday. Daniel said the arrest of a fugitive always had significant meaning to uphold justice. "President Yudhoyono's basic policy applies to all legal cases, to try and punish guilty persons, no matter who they are." he said. He said the President would always encourage any attempt to disclose legal cases which became the authority of the national police, the attorney's general office and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The head of state would always ensure that no single party would influence Nunun's legal process, he said. KPK and other relevant agencies arrested Nunun in Thailand with the help of local police. ? Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto said here Saturday Nunun had been arrested in Bangkok and brought back to Jakarta. Suyanto said the news was received by the foreign minister from the Indonesian ambassador to Thailand. Nunun was taken from Bangkok to Jakarta by KPK, according to information from the foreign minister. Nunun was some time ago declared a suspect in the case of a number of parliamentarians who had accepted bribes in connection with the election of Miranda Gultom as Bank Indonesia (BI or central bank) senior deputy governor in 2004. The KPK declared her a suspect while she was abroad where she was said to be staying for treatment of an illness. In its efforts to capture Nunun, the KPK through the National Police eventually sought the assistance of Interpol. (*)
