"N-219 is now already in the phase of medium speed test'. It already rolled out of the hangar. It is airworthy but it is yet to be tested," Nasir said after opening The 6th International Eijkman Conference here on Tuesday.
He said a week ago the double engine multi function aircraft is designed for operation in isolated areas, adding it had flown for 10 to 15 minutes.
"I want to check to make sure N-219 is already fit and airworthy. Hopefully the year 2017 would become the day of the awakening of the country's aerospace industry," he said.
The aircraft designed for the transport of passengers or cargoes will meet the FAR 23 standards.
"It is wholly Indonesian made although part of the materials are imported. The wings are 100 percent locally manufactured," he said.
The aircraft could carry 19 passengers and it could land on a relatively short runway of 500-600 meters . It could even land on a highway in emergency.
The aircraft has been exhibited and many companies from Africa had expressed interest in buying the aircraft. Even a Nigerian company offers to build an assembling plant in that country.(*)
