Kediri, E Java, (Antara) - Anti-narcotic agency BNN conducted a urine test on bus transport drivers at Kediri bus terminal in East Java to prevent possible drug abuse by drivers during the Eid holidays.
"We want to assure that passengers reach their destinations safely," head of BNN Kediri chapter Lilik Dewi Indarwati said at the Kediri terminal here on Wednesday.
She stated that she wished to assure all drivers were clean and were not under the influence of narcotic drugs while driving. At the same time, she also wished to educate the public about the dangers of narcotic drugs.
BNN involved policewomen, counselors, and BNN workers to provide information about the dangers of narcotic drugs to the passengers while their drivers underwent urine test.
No driver tested positive that day. Lilik noted that two years ago, a driver had tested positive, but in the past two years, no positive cases had been found.
Drivers were happy to carry out the test as during the test they also had their health checked.
More people will be traveling during the Islamic post-fasting holiday that would fall on Sunday, but the government has already declared a mass leave for civil servants to enable the holiday to start on June 22.(*)
