Jakarta, (Antara) - The Indonesian Fishery Entrepreneurs Association (Gappindo) has asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to help address the problems in the national marine and fisheries sector, according to Gappindo Chairman Herwindo.
In a press statement made available to Antara here on Sunday, Herwindo said, "We insisted that the president intervene to overcome problems that have hurt businesses in the marine and fisheries sector."
According to him, the slow implementation of Presidential Instruction No. 7/2016 on the Acceleration of the National Fisheries Industry has created material losses and uncertainty for business in marine and fisheries sector in the country.
Herwindo stated that based on an analysis and evaluation issued by Illegal Fishing Eradication Task Force, some national fisheries companies had made a lot of mistakes, but the analysis and evaluation failed to be followed up legally by the government for nearly two years.
According to him, the mistakes made by the companies have caused material losses and layoffs of 5,000 employees, and therefore Gappindo has asked the president to help address the problems.(*)
