Surabaya, E Java (Antara) - The Surabaya city government in East Java plans to set up a disaster mitigation command post to accommodate all pieces of information on disasters in the city.

"We will set up a disaster mitigation command post. It will receive all pieces of information on disaster no matter how small is the disaster such as fire. The command post is made up of not only city apparatus working unit members, but also employees of state electricity company PLN and state telecommunications company Telkom," Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said during a meeting on disaster mitigation command post here on Wednesday.

The mayor said the city government has a disaster mitigation working unit (Satlak PB) which comprises representatives of the  National Unity and Community Protection Agency (Bakesbanglinmas), the public works office, and fire department.

A fire which gutted a shop some time ago has become the center of attention from the city government. Based on the result of investigation the fire occurred due to lack of coordination among relevant agencies.

She expressed hope the command post will be able to handle all pieces of information on disasters and that the disasters can be dealt with.   (*)
