Surabaya, E Java (Antara) -- The Surabaya Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) sealed 16 illegal mini-markets in the city on Monday and ordered their owners to remove all items. \"The sealing was conducted spontaneously in five areas in the city,\" Chief of the Surabaya Satpol PP Irvan Widyanto said. As per bylaw number 4 of 2010, mini-markets are required to secure not only building construction permits (IMB), but nuisance permits (HO), as well. Most of the mini-markets did not have nuisance permits, he noted. Data from the Surabaya Satpol PP reveals that 396 mini-markets in the city violate nuisance permits. \"We locked the mini-markets and ordered (their employees) to take out all items,\" Widyanto affirmed. \"Before they were sealed, Satpol PP ordered their owners to remove all items. We also asked them to turn off electrical and water supplies. In essence, they are no longer allowed to operate,\" chief of the Satpol PP\'s operations section, Deny Christoper, stated. The sealing was part of the first phase of efforts to control mini-markets in the city. \"On Wednesday (April 1), we will continue the operations till we achieve our target of closing (illegal mini-markets),\" he said.
