Jakarta (Antara) - Former commissioner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas has suggested that Commr. Gen. Budi Gunawan should withdraw his candidacy for national police chief as he is a graft suspect now.
Erry expressed confidence here on Thursday that Commr. Gen. Budi Gunawan as law enforcer will respect legal processes and act as a gentleman.
"I am sure that as a law enforcer, he (Budi Gunawana) will act as a gentleman. I think if he resigns (as police chief candidate), he will look elegant," Erry stated.
Thus, Budi Gunawan can prove himself as an officer and a good citizen and respect the rule of law and its processes, he explained.
According to Erry, if in the future KPK detains Commr. Gen. Budi Gunawan, President Joko Widodo should be firm in his commitment to law enforcement and corruption eradication and cancel Budi's candidacy for Police Chief.
"The President should also propose new names for the post of Police Chief; officers who have excellent integrity as proven by inputs from relevant agencies such as the Advisory Council office for high ranking officials, National Police Commission, the Financial Analysis and Transactions Reporting Center, and KPK," Erry pointed out.
