Jakarta (Antara) - Chairman of the Indonesia-Palestine Friendship Initiative(PPIP) Din Syamsudin said he thanks presidential hopeful Joko Widodo for his statement supporting Palestinian independence. Joko Widodo , better known as Jokowi, said in a presidential debate last Sunday that his government, if he is elected president, would continue Indonesian support for Palestinian cause and will help seek its permanent membership in the United Nations. Din Syamsudin said the statement by Jokowi needs to be realized by opening Indonesian embassy in Palestine. "In fact it has been the basic point of the country's policy since the era of Soekarno (the country's first president), but it needs realization," he said here on Tuesday. Jusuf Kalla, Jokowi's running mate said Indonesia will open the country's embassy in the Palestinian capital in the first year Jokowi took the presidency. Din said on behalf of PPIP as an inter faith, ethnic and party organization supporting Palestinian independence, he wanted to thanks Joko Widodo for his statement. "This is nothing to do with the neutrality , but I am very thankful that Jokowi reminded us of our long commitment to support Palestine," he said. (*)
