Jakarta (Antara) - The vision and mission of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto in the agricultural field are realistic and applicable, Herman Khaeron, deputy chairman of Commission IV on agriculture of the House Representatives (DPR), said.
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building here on Monday, Herman expressed his conviction that farmers across the country will support and elect Prabowo as their president.
"I am convinced that all farmers in Indonesia share the same idea about Prabowo. His vision and mission clearly show his seriousness in the agricultural sector," the House Commission IV deputy chairman said.
He noted that Prabowo had a clear understanding on matters related to the agricultural sector as important to the development framework.
Prabowo, he pointed out, wanted to develop the agrarian sector as one of the country's mainstay sectors by enhancing rice farms by two million hectares.
"His plan to build two million hectares for the production of raw materials for bioethanol is also very strategic," he said.
He said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had laid the foundation of agriculture development.
"Prabowo, if elected president, will continue the work by implementing his programs. This will reduce the number of unemployed people and cut dependence on imports of fossil fuels. Energy and food will become strong," he said. (*)
