Jakarta (Antara) - General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawai Soekarnoputri will campaign in Surabaya, East Java, on Monday, a PDIP Liaison Officer said. "Megawati is scheduled to attend PDIP's campaign at Surabaya's Pacasila Sports Complex on Monday," Liaison Officer of East Java's PDIP Executive Board Didik Rasetiyono told Antara on Sunday. Didik said that the major campaign will be attended by a number of PDIP's campaigners from Jakarta and East Java, PDIP's legislative candidates and thousands of supporters. Megawati had disseminated a message to PDIP cadres to work hard so that the party would win the legislative elections on April 9 and the presidential race on July 9 for PDIP's presidential hopeful Joko Widodo, he said. Didik said PDIP had set itself a target to win 22 percent of the votes at the national level and 25 percent of the parliamentary seats in parliament in this year's elections. The PDIP officially nominated Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, as its presidential candidate in the upcoming election. Chief of the PDIP's Central Executive Board Puan Maharani announced Jokowi's candidacy for the presidency at the office of the party's central executive board on Friday. Puan said PDIP's General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri decided to nominate Jokowi for the presidency in accordance with the party's articles of association and the result of the party's congress held in Bali in 2010.
