Tangerang, Banten (Antara) - Transportation Minister E.E. Mangindaan on Monday inaugurated the Jakarta Automated Air Traffic Service (JAATS) building, which serves as air traffic controller.
"This JAATS building, which replaces the existing JAATS or guardian, can serve the entire Indonesian air space, particularly the western part of the country," he said.
It took 23 months to construct the Rp360 billion JAATS building on 7.8 hectares of land owned by the state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II. The construction of JAATS was initiated by the Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Transportation Ministry.
The minister expressed hope that the Indonesian Flight Navigation Service Operator (LPPNPI) will make available JAATS equipment soon.
He said the Indonesian flight navigation system is distinguished into JAATS for the western part of the country and MATSC for the eastern part. JAATS is located in Jakarta and MATSC in Makassar.
The new JAATS building will hopefully help improve flight safety and efficiency. "I hope this will serve as a momentum for the development of navigation services in Indonesia," he said.
The JAATS building has many advantages, including control rooms with 80 working stations to serve flight navigation.
The JAATS building, which was built with the green and smart concept of construction, has a green belt to function as the water catchment area. (*)
