Kudus, Central Java (Antara) - Tens of houses were flooded and damaged following incessant heavy rains in Undaan Sub-district, Kudus District, Central Java Province, early on Tuesday. A total of 44 houses were damaged by flash floods, Head of Undaan Sub-district Mundir stated. Ten were seriously damaged and 34 others slightly damaged. Flash floods came from the Kendeng mountain area, he added. The floodwaters reached a height of up to one meter. Last week, Kudus was hit by flash floods and landslides, displacing 9,178 people and claiming 12 lives. According to the data received from the district disaster mitigation board (BPBD), the evacuees were being sheltered in 23 different locations across seven subdistricts such as Kota, Jati, Mejobo, Undaan, Kaliwungu, Jekulo and Gebog. The landslide victims were evacuated to the Menawan Village Head's office. In the past few weeks, floods and landslides have hit parts of Indonesia, particularly Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi and Kalimantan Islands, and continue to spread further, claiming more lives as torrential rains continue to lash.
