Gresik, E Java (Antara) - The Gresik District Narcotics Board (BNK) in East Java conducted a raid on a number of bus passengers at Bunder terminal here on Saturday to see if they had abused narcotics. The raid targeted bus passengers who came from outside the district, the board's chief, Sudiono, said. "During the two-hour raid conducted in cooperation with the drug unit of the Gresik district police and the transportation office, we asked passengers to get off the bus to search for drugs," he said. Sudiono said during the raid the team searched the wallets, bags and other hand-luggage of bus passengers. "We will conduct the raid routinely to curb drug trafficking in Gresik district," he said. The search was also done to a number of cargo cars, he said. "Gresik is vulnerable to drug trafficking because it is close to Surabaya metropolitan city," he said. In addition, Gresik also had nine ports which were prone to drug trafficking, he said. Earlier, the board also conducted a raid on crew members of ships anchored at the Gresik port following an allegation that many of them had abused narcotics. (*)
